The gesture of raising wands in the Harry Potter fandom, or “Potterians,” has a poignant origin. In the books and films, wizards and witches raise their wands to pay tribute to a fallen comrade, the light from the wands serving to honor and remember the deceased. This act symbolizes respect, solidarity, and the collective mourning of a loss. One of the most memorable scenes featuring this gesture is in “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince”, where characters raise their wands to honor Dumbledore after his death.
